CHILDREN AND WORSHIP:
SIMPLE SUPPER PROGRAM
It is important for families to worship together and it is our delight to see children in worship with their parents. As babies grow, a time will come when the parents choose to place their children in nursery or Sunday school. Good Shepherd loves children and can easily handle their energy. We do ask, however, that parents be conscious of the difficulty their jubilant offspring may be to others. A close circuit camera with audio is available in Hardtner Hall if you would like to remove your child temporarily so that you can participate in the liturgy and return for Communion. To those adults who are distracted by active children, we ask for your patience and invite you to move forward to the front pews so that you can better hear and see.
THE NURSERY at Good Shepherd, located down the hall past the administration offices, welcomes children through first grade into an environment of fun and pleasant experiences. It is staffed by caring workers and is purposely a distance away from the sanctuary so that parents are not tempted to respond to anxious children. The Nursery is generally available for other church events and to choir members during their Sunday morning reversal.
SUNDAY SCHOOL – Currently, our program for pre-k through 5th grades children is offered between the two morning services from 10:15 and returning to worship during The Peace so that families may enjoy Communion together. The classes are broken up into various ages depending on the number of students and parent teachers available. The older children from 6th grade through senior high meet together at 10:00 breaking in time to attend the 10:30 liturgy.
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL - Following breakfast, adults meet Sunday morning at 9:45 and break in time for the 10:30 liturgy. Courses typically are a DVD presentation followed by group discussion.
- Throughout the program year a simple supper and program is offered in Hardtner Hall. Participants take turns cooking and a small fee is requested to offset costs. Programs vary from the Alpha Course and season studies to guest speakers, entertainment, and evenings of worship, praise and song. Wednesday night gives us a chance to unpack our lives in Christ togther. SMALL GROUP STUDIES
-A number of small group studies also occur both at Good Shepherd and in homes throughout the week. Check with staff and consult the Newsletter for current offerings. Classes on running a small group study are offered periodically and Good Shepherd encourages all her parishioners to be in some type of small group for nurture, discipleship and pastoral care. If you don’t have a group but want to start one – talk with the clergy about training!
